Don’t Let Your Team Fall Through the Cracks: Employee Health Benefits

Lately, the stories have been piling up.
People fighting just to get the care their insurance is supposed to cover.
It’s hard to listen to.
It’s even harder to imagine the stress and heartbreak these families go through,
all because the safety net they counted on let them down.
As an employer, you want better for your team.
Benefits decisions are about real people, not just spreadsheets,
and a few intentional moves can help you in today's challenging landscape.
Here are 3 tips I often recommend to clients that can make a real impact.
1. Pair HDHPs with Funded HSAs
I’ve seen companies fully fund employees’ HSAs, sometimes covering the entire deductible.
The result? Employees have the money they need for medical costs and employers still often spend less overall than with a traditional plan.
But funding alone isn’t enough. Make sure your team really understands how an HSA works, how to use it, and why it matters.
If you don’t have the internal expertise, bring in someone who does; this small investment pays off in peace of mind and smarter healthcare decisions.
2. Stop Auto-Renewing Your Health Plan
Every year brings changes to carrier networks, pricing, and plan structures.
Review your carrier, plan design, and benefits strategy each year, don’t be afraid to ask for a second opinion.
If you’re in a PEO plan, know that you aren’t locked in.
You can negotiate, explore open market insurance through your PEO, or even leave the PEO setup entirely.
Each option could open up new possibilities for your people and your budget.
3. Ask Yourself: Is Your Broker Really Advocating for Your Team?
For small and midsize companies, the broker relationship is everything.
Your employees shouldn’t be getting redirected to a generic call center.
Your broker should be advocating for your team, resolving issues, and making sure care isn’t slipping through the cracks.
If they’re not stepping up, know that there are brokers out there who will,
and who care just as much about your employees as you do.
Here's the Bottom Line
If you care about your people (and I know you do), your benefits should show it.
